Aryna Sabalenka Sails Into US Open Semis, Readies for Emma Navarro
Aryna Sabalenka cruised into the US Open semifinals and is now gearing up for a showdown with Emma Navarro. Following her dominant performance, Sabalenka addressed the crowd with a light-hearted offer, saying, "Drinks on me tonight?" as she playfully urged fans to support her in the next match.
Sabalenka had previously faced Navarro in the fourth round at Roland Garros earlier this year, where she emerged victorious. However, she was also aware of the challenge ahead, having lost to Navarro on the hard courts at Indian Wells. "She's a great player," Sabalenka acknowledged. "I’ve seen her matches here, and she's playing incredible tennis. It’s going to be a great battle, and I’m really looking forward to it."
This season, Sabalenka has been in outstanding form, winning 33 out of 36 sets in major tournaments. She is now aiming to become the first woman since Angelique Kerber in 2016 to secure both the Australian Open and US Open titles in the same year.
The other women's semifinalists will be determined soon, with No. 1 Iga Swiatek facing No. 6 Jessica Pegula, and No. 22 Beatriz Haddad Maia taking on unseeded Karolina Muchova.
Sabalenka's victory improved her major quarterfinal record
